Dharma Guardian 2025 Exercise- The sixth edition of the Joint Military Exercise Dharma Guardian, involving India and Japan, is set to take place at Mount Fuji, Japan, from February 25 to March 9, as announced by the Indian Army on Sunday.
According to the Additional Directorate General of Public Information, IHQ of MoD (Army), the objective of this exercise is to improve coordination between the two military forces, particularly in joint urban warfare and counter-terrorism operations conducted under a UN mandate. This information was shared through a social media post.
The post further highlighted that Exercise Dharma Guardian 2025 builds on the positive momentum from the Chief of the Army Staff’s (COAS) visit to Japan, which occurred from October 14 to 17, 2024. The exercise aims to reinforce the defence collaboration between India and Japan.
Meanwhile, on February 11, special forces from India and Egypt commenced the ‘Cyclone III’ exercise at the Mahajan Field Firing Ranges in Rajasthan. An official stated that this joint military drill is scheduled to conclude on February 23.
Exercise ‘Cyclone’ is an annual event that alternates between India and Egypt. The previous edition took place in Egypt in January 2024, according to an official statement.
The Indian contingent, consisting of 25 personnel, is drawn from two Special Forces Battalions, while the Egyptian contingent, also comprising 25 personnel, includes members from the Special Forces Group and Task Force of the Egyptian Special Forces.
The official emphasized that the purpose of this exercise is to strengthen military cooperation between the two nations by enhancing interoperability, fostering joint operations, and sharing specialized tactical knowledge.

The exercise will emphasize rigorous physical training, collaborative planning, and synchronized tactical drills. The drills will include advanced special forces techniques and other operational tactics aligned with contemporary combat scenarios.
A key aspect of the exercise will be a 48-hour validation phase, where participants will practice tactical maneuvers for counter-terrorism operations in desert and semi-desert environments.
Additionally, the exercise will feature a display of indigenous military equipment and provide an overview of India’s defence manufacturing industry for the visiting Egyptian contingent.
According to the official, this collaborative drill will allow both sides to exchange best practices and strategies in tactical operations, techniques, and procedures, further strengthening their military partnership.
Objective of Dharma Guardian 2025 Exercise-
The main goal of the exercise is to enhance interoperability between the two forces through joint urban warfare and counter-terrorism drills conducted under a United Nations mandate.

By refining tactics in these specialized fields, both armies seek to bolster their operational preparedness for various security challenges. Building on the success of past editions, Dharma Guardian 2025 highlights the deepening strategic partnership between India and Japan.
The India and Japan military exercise serves as a platform for military personnel from both nations to share best practices, improve coordination, and build mutual trust. This collaboration has become increasingly significant amid the shifting security dynamics in the Indo-Pacific region, where India and Japan are committed to promoting stability, prosperity, and adherence to international norms.
Regular joint training reinforces their shared commitment to addressing potential threats and maintaining regional peace. Beyond tactical operations, Dharma Guardian 2025 will also strengthen cultural and professional bonds between the participating troops.
Military drills often incorporate social and cultural exchanges that foster a deeper appreciation of each other’s traditions, values, and operational methods. These interactions lay the groundwork for mutual respect, which is essential for effective cooperation in real-world scenarios.
As both forces advance their modernization efforts, Exercise Dharma Guardian (India and Japan military Exercise) will provide a platform to further solidify the ties between India and Japan. Army sources, in a statement to India Today TV, described it as a “move towards a shared commitment to collective security.”
According to sources, the insights gained and relationships built over the course of this two-week exercise are anticipated to yield lasting benefits, not only for bilateral relations but also for broader regional collaboration in tackling complex challenges within the United Nations framework.
