A grassroots leader with a background in RSS and ABVP, she started her political career as a B.Com student at Daulat Ram College, Delhi University. She became a member of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) in 1992.

Rekha Gupta entered student politics in 1992 while studying at Daulat Ram College, Delhi University. She was associated with the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and became the president of the Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) in 1996-97, where she actively raised student issues.
After being elected councillor from North Pitampura in 2007, she worked on the development of facilities such as libraries, parks and swimming pools in the area.
She has also been associated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). For the welfare of women and children, she launched initiatives such as the “Sumedha Yojana”, which helped economically weaker girl students to pursue higher education.
As the head of the Women Welfare and Child Development Committee, she led empowerment campaigns for women. Rekha Gupta has also been the general secretary of the BJP Mahila Morcha in Delhi and a member of its national executive committee.
